VanArts has articulation agreements in place with several well established universities/colleges in Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. These degree pathways allow you to complete your bachelor’s degree in as little as one or two years after your studies at VanArts. This gives you the advantage of two credentials; a professional diploma and an undergraduate degree.

Video Production

Have you always wanted to make a film? Does your digital camera or cellphone take video? Already making online videos and want to push them to the next level? This course will take you through the entire process of filmmaking, from shooting and lighting to editing and post-production. By the end of the course you will apply all these skills to create your own five-minute film in any style: documentary, experimental or narrative.

Course Info

This course is run entirely on Zoom, and can be taken from anywhere. Please note the sessions are in Vancouver's Pacific Time zone, so students outside this area will need to adjust schedules accordingly. Classes must be attended live and will not be recorded. Students provide their own computers and backup media, and are responsible for archiving their projects.

Minimum-to-approximate computer requirements are as follows:

FOR DESKTOP – CPU Intel i5, 16GB Memory, Video Adapter NVidia Geforce 970, Hard Drive 1TB

FOR LAPTOP – CPU Intel i5, 12GB Memory, Graphics Adapter w/ 1GB memory, Hard Drive SSD 250

All classes run Thursday evenings 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Pacific (Vancouver) Time.

Equipment Requirements: Camera or mobile device capable of shooting digital video

AERLAN BARRETT

Aerlan Barrett is a graduate from the Simon Fraser School for Contemporary Arts and an award winning Playwright, Screenwriter Cinematographer, Director and Editor. Known for his Praxis and Whistler screenwriting award, director of short films that have premiered internationally and for his work on numerous independent projects that have brought him to China, Belgium and all around Canada. As an educator he’s worked with The Cinematheque’s film-making program, at Simon Fraser University as both a teaching and research assistant and in VanArts’ acting program. He brings his energy and passion to every class room and project he works on, hoping to inspire and encourage a new wave of artistic voices.
